Definitions

 

PRELUDE The prelude is a time for people to
become quiet, to meditate and pray, and to prepare their hearts individually for the worship of God.
 
 
CALL TO WORSHIP – Declaring that the Lord is
present and empowers our worship.
 
 
THE APOSTLES CREED – written by early
followers of Jesus; the Apostles’ creed is Crafted in the form of a confessional statement of Christian belief.
 
 
PRAYER OF CONFESSION – the people confess the sin of which they are already aware and then come to the Proclamation of the Word in the assurance of God’s pardoning grace.
 
 
THE GLORIA PATRI – is a doxology sung after
scripture reading to remind us that our chief, our
supreme, our ultimate purpose in life is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.
 
 
DOXOLOGY – a short statement of praise, glory, and thanksgiving to God. It is often a short hymn
designed to be sung by the worshipping
congregation.
 
 
BENEDICTION – “a good saying or word” spoken
by the pastor and addressed to the congregation, it is used to dismiss the congregation at the end of worship.
 
 
POSTLUDE – the musical selection played or
sung at the conclusion of a service of worship.
The postlude generally follows a benediction
given by the pastor or other worship leaders.
